How to Stretch for Better Sex

No, you don't need to be a human pretzel to have fulfilling, climax-inducing sex. However, pairing up with your partner for some pre-romp stretches to open your hips, hammies, and lower back can not only prepare your body for all those positions (nothing sucks more than getting a muscle cramp when you're about to O), but can also serve as some fun and active foreplay. (For even more foreplay perks, do some strength training and then cool down with these moves. Research shows lifting weights is the best pre-sex workout.)

"When it comes to improving sex life, what people have trouble with most often is hip and low-back mobility," says Jeff Brannigan, program director at Stretch*d, a stretching studio in New York City. He designed this series of partner stretches to help you loosen up before you hit the sheets. (More good news: Doing *any* workout before sex is a good idea.)

Stand or kneel behind your partner while they are lying on their side, bottom arm under their head. Stretches: Abductors (outer thigh)

Stand or kneel next to your partner while they're lying flat on their back with legs outstretched. Reach across to grab the leg on the opposite side from you. Place one hand underneath their foot and the other underneath their knee. Using both hands simultaneously (and gently), rotate the leg outward so their knee is pointing away from them. Keeping the leg in that position, pull it across their body toward you. Help them stretch a bit farther than they can go on their own, hold for 2 to 3 seconds, and then return to starting position.

Repeat 10 to 12 times. Switch sides; repeat.

Stretches: Piriformis

Stand or kneel next to your partner while they're lying flat on their back. Reach across them to grab the leg farther from you. Place one of your hands underneath their heel and the other outside the thigh just above their knee. Have them lift their leg upward so both their hip and knee are bent at 90 degrees. In that position, help them as they drop their leg across their body toward you. Help them stretch a bit farther than they can go on their own, hold for 2 to 3 seconds, and then return to starting position. (FYI: If this is killing you, you might have piriformis syndrome.)

Repeat 10 to 12 times. Switch sides; repeat.
